If you’ve been to the Kenmore studio of late some of you may have notice the new big ass artwork hanging above the desk. Yes its me and my kids and the hubster.. a snapshot into the crazy life that we lead. Whose isn’t?! To be honest photos are not my thing.. never have dare I say never will be but.. what ive learned is that photos aren’t about you?!
Well they’re of you but not for you! Looking thru the last 6 years of photos which included 2 pregnancies, motherhood and numerous birthdays, anniversaries and life as i know it, I have 9 pictures of myself.. 9 yes just 9!! And these are only photos with me included in them. Not of me solo. Be it that I’m the one taking the pics or running around looking for a knife to cut the cake or the hard truth…. Im actually not very fond of being photographed. I’m terrribly uncomfortable with them and being seen in them. ( issue alert!)
But what happens when I’m gone and my children and their childrens children look back on the life they had growing up in photos.. Where is their mother? grandmother? what did she look like? what did she do? was she happy? kind? fun? A pain in the butt?
I love tralling thru my grandmothers black and white photos of my gramps, my aunts and uncles as kids and all the places they went to and the crazy clothes they were made to wear, knowing there is a story behind each image.
When was the last time you bought a picture frame or better… a photo album?
For me.. I could not tell you!
So my beautiful friend and photogrpher Amanda from Salt Mama Studios came and took these candid pics of my family and of …ME! It wasn’t to mark any special occasion but to capture a glimpse of the life we have at this particular moment. Something tangible, something my children can look back at .. and for me. And they’re beautiful!! So beautifull that Amanda donated these to the studio so people could see the magic she found in the simplicity of everyday life.. my everyday life, which I bet for most of us is not too dissimilar.
Don’t wait for that special occasion to be photographed. Be remembered especially in print ..theres nothing like it. Be seen by those who love you for years to come.

When I was little ( littler than I am now!) I would find the highest point in my school playground, sit and stare out to sea, breathe deeply and do what I now know as meditation. When I closed my eyes and followed my breath, I would see super bright colours swirling around like a dance performance of energy and vibrancy. I intuitively knew that everything was connected…. and we are here to help each other…and take care of each other.
I’ll be honest with you.. That sensation gets filled up when you grow up. Schedules, goals, work load, families, oh my! I know you know what I’m talking about. We are all so busy and although I am grateful for everything my adventures have brought me so far, I have a strong intuitive sense it’s important to find that space inside again.
We are here to take care of each other.
I’m letting it be my mantra these days and it goes both ways. Take care of others and let others take care of you. When you experience this with friends, family, co-workers, and even strangers, you are in the prime of your life. Things happen easily, struggle doesn’t exist, and synchronicity happens from moment to moment.
This month I was treated to a weekend getaway.. from yoga, from children, from my life up here! I had 36 hours in my home town Sydney. 36 hours on my own.. on my own time! First in many years. I had the pleasure of spending time with good friends who I’ve not seen in many years. You know the kind of friends that time has no boundaries on your friendship.. when you catch-up its like nothing has passed and despite many things having happened in your time apart your still you and they’re still them. Funnily enough my time was spent mainly with friends with babies.. a time when taking care of everyone but yourself is commonplace. And it really is the simple things that help us take care of each other. Letting your friend know that she’s awesome and to trust her own judgement..Making a cup of tea for another so she can just sit for 5 minutes and take a break from her 3 month baby and 2 year old daughter .. letting go and allowing others to take care of your family while you take time out for yourself..and being okay with it!
The balance doesn’t work if you favour one or the other. If you spend most of your time taking care of others and forgetting about yourself, you spend all your time giving.
But you can give much more when you take care of yourself first. If you are mainly interested in your self, your own desires, your own dreams and your own goals, you drain from others. Ultimately feeling isolated, finding it harder to find those who want to take care of you.
1. Chose a simple activity that helps you take care of you. Let it be simple, (shopping sprees don’t count!) Take a long walk, start a project, read a good book, or take a bath.
It can be weekly or daily.
Mines a quiet cup of tea during AC’s morning nap.
2. Chose a simple activity that helps take care of someone else. Give a friend or a loved one a back rub, take a friend out for tea and ask them how they are doing in their life and just listen, or call an old friend for no reason other than just to catch up.
Right.. Well I’m off to take a bath, spend some time with my babies, and make a date with my man maybe even call a friend. How about you?
Autumn is here, there is a little chill in those early mornings and as the days get shorter and cooler we tend to let things go.. especially or health!
I’ve been reminded lately in more ways than one that the most important thing you can do is take care of our selves.I didn’t always have the grounding self care in my life and I am so grateful to know how to take care of myself so when things start to slip, they don’t slip out of control.
I know your thinking, well I have a stressful job, an out of control schedule, and a busy family to take care of. I have to take care of everyone else there is no time for myself.. I totally hear you and I’m not trying to come across it’s so easy, just eat some vegies and do more yoga. We all have our stresses. It’s part of life. It comes and goes and comes and goes again. The trick I’ve learned along the way is to deal with it when it comes.
Taking care of yourself is not selfish. It is the best thing you can do for yourself, your life, your goals, your dreams, and for everyone you care about in your life. If you’re not healthy you can’t help yourself and your surely can’t help others. If you are only good when you’e not stressed and things are going smoothly, you aren’t much good to yourself whenever a stress wave hits, and your life will be on a roller coaster cycle of drama.

Intentions are a powerful thing. They exists and direct our lives whether we are consciously making them or just going along without them. When we are clear about our intent be it day-to-day, weekly, yearly, or even for our whole life, we can rely on our intuition and the efforts we put into our lives become clear, direct, and powerful!

Today I intend to take 5 minutes for myself, sit queitly and just be!
And do it. Simple really?!
So remember your intentions. They can be about practicing yoga, meditation, being more centered, connected, helping others, or helping yourself. Set your intention in the morning so you can follow through with your actions throughout the day.

Not matter how big or small your intention is, just try it and who knows you might just start to live the life you dreamed.
Yoga is about moving with ease and practicing with the freedom.
It’s not just yoga that’s the magic, it’s about how you practice.
When you allow yourself the freedom to move your body how it feels good,
explore into all your parts, and to rest your mind on your breath, you get
really capable in your body, mind, and life.
Allow yourself to move how it feels good to move. Linger where it feels nice
to linger. Go to classes that make you feel good about yourself physically
and mentally. If it hurts, don’t do it. And most important, allow yourself
to have fun.

It’s a time of massive goal setting and directed action. New big plans of health, quality relationships, and prosperity are set across the globe. All these ideas can be high pressure, high intensity, and a whole lot of stress. It can be a little crash and burn, ya know!!
The goals, you’ll blow past. Don’t worry about them. When you get really good at whatever your doing, you’ll begin to enjoy the process a whole lot more than worrying about a goal.
So to keep you on track for 2014 and feeling great we have some new additions to our timetable comencing February 3rd.
Our weekday 9.30am classes will include Tuesdays 9.30am Urban Align with Jasmine, Thursdays Urban Define with Michaela and Wednesdays 9.30am will change into Urban Power with Krissi!!
Fridays @ 6pm will finish the week with Urban Power.. great way to shake off the week and gear up for the weekend ahead!

Urban Power on Tuesdays @7.15pm will change to Urban Define… a new addition to our Urban styles!!
We will be introducing our Golden Yogi’s program Thursday @ 10.45am.. Designed for those who are less mobile, recovering from major injury or surgery, manage a physical dissability or are just enjoying their golden years but want to stay active. Using a combination of Yoga therapy and chair yoga, our golden yogi classes will improve the quality of your life and lifestyle for now and the future.
We welcome back our Urban Pregnancy 4 Week Course commencing Monday Feb 3rd @ 7.15pm..Keeping our mothers to be fit and active throughout their preganacy whilst equiping them with active birth tools for that special day.. Partners will be welcome to attend in week 4 where we will equip them with ways to support and get involved.. Booking are essential!
Our first 6 Week Beginners Course for the year will commence Thursday Feb 6th @ 7.15pm.. Bookings are a must!!
Go ahead and have your goals, but don’t get too stuck there. Practice what you want to feel. Just make it feel fantastic… right??

As we turn 3 months young I would like to thank everyone for visitng our lovely little studio!
With new beginnings come challenges of settling in, finding our place in the community and most importantly discovering ways to share our love of Yoga. I am so grateful for all the amazing people who have come thru the doors of Urban Yogi and even more excited to watch you all grow on your Yoga journey.. Thank you for taking it with us!
Our beloved Laura farewells us for awhile to enjoy her time as a new mother. Its time for her to take leave and prepare for the birth of her beautiful bubba. Laura we wish you all the very best and look forward to meeting your little man! There will be no changes to Laura’s classes as I will be safeguarding them until her return.
There are a few amendments to the timetable.
Prenatal Yoga on Saturdays at 9am please book into your first class only.
Bookings are required for the 6 Week Beginners Courses that run on Thursdays at 7.15pm.
Our 4pm Basics/Gentle class on Saturdays is open and does not require bookings.
